Is my Boat Dock a candidate for flotation replacement? With the corrosive nature of water on steel, anyone considering flotation replacement needs to carefully inspect their metal structure, looking especially at areas of metal in contact with float block. If metal has areas that are rusted through or missing, repairs to structure may need to be performed to attain best results. We will be glad to speak with you and assist in evaluating your individual situation.
Will my decking surface have to be ripped up to have float blocks replaced? In certain situations, decking material may be removed allowing access to top of flotation blocks. This allows us to remove existing fasteners, and also install new ones' with the new flotation. Depending on construction, we try to reuse removed materials when possible.
I currently have raw polystyrene foam blocks under my boathouse; can I replace my old foam with new raw foam? This will depend on the current regulations for your location. Raw foam might be allowed and limited to maintenance of existing structures and not for new construction. Check with the governing authorities before purchasing new floats.
Who provides the new replacement float blocks? We leave this choice up to the customer. We can supply the new blocks or the customer can make arrangements and have them on location.
What should I look for in a new flotation block? One of the features I like to see in a block is that it meets all criteria required for the location of use. Most areas limit use to the encapsulated type of floats to prevent the pollution created by deteriorating raw foam. Other considerations could be finding the closest size match to original (to fit framework), price, availability, and warranty.
What is the cost for foam replacement? Cost will vary according to the type of dock construction and its condition. For the basic removal and replacement of blocks similiar in size as original on a structure that doesn't require metal work repair, would cost about $200 per block.
What is done with old blocks removed from my boathouse? This will depend on regulations in your area. It is a requirement in some areas to have documentation showing that old foam has been disposed of at an approved waste handling facility. If this is the case, we will transport waste foam to disposal site with an additional charge to cover cost of fuel. If allowed, we would be happy to let owner arrange transportation with a shipper of their choice.
What is your service area? Since we are just getting set up to offer this new type of service, our range will most likely be the areas in and around Oklahoma, depending on demand, but feel free to contact us with your specific situation and location, maybe we can help.
What type of equipment do you use? We use a transportable barge and attachment; (Foam Block Replacement Barge US Patent 6901877) that allows us to pull individual flotation blocks down in water, instead of having to lift the floating structure.
